This movie is a remake of Oliver Hirschbiegel’s Das Experiment.
It is based on a true story from 1971 of a group of scientists that brought 20 people to a prison and wanted to do a psychological experiment of cash reward.
Some of the people played guards and some inmates for two weeks. The main objective of the experiment was to see how people would behave. The guards had to maintain order with no violence for example.
At first everything was fine, but than violence begins to happen between the guards and the prisoners and everyone gets into their role a bit too much to the state that the guards become very violent and the inmates become very depressed.
On day 6 it gets so bad that they almost kill each other, that’s when the gate open and the subjects are taken out.
This is about the influence of the environment about a person and the influence of power on people.
